Penalty Kick Conversion By Burton The Difference In Sharks 2-1 Victory Over Dowling College

Sharks Hand Dowling College Lions First Loss Of The Season

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Sept. 19, 2008) The Nova Southeastern University womens soccer team defeated Dowling College 2-1 in action at the NSU Soccer Complex on Friday evening. Dowling falls to 3-1-3 on the season while NSU improves to 4-0-2 on the year.

Newcomer Elizabeth Brauher (Jr., Hilo, Hi.) broke the clean sheet seven minutes into the match, scoring from just inside the right corner of the box off of a pass from Alexis Hernandez (So., Weston, Fla.) to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

Dowling College got on the board in the 35th minute, when Vanessa Moreira cashed in on a breakaway opportunity to tie the match at one apiece.

The match would remain tied until NSU all-time goals and points leader Shurell Burton (Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.) converted on a game winning penalty kick in the 76th minute. The goal was Burtons fourth of the season.

Brauher and forward Heather Swift (Sr., Titusville, Fla.) tied for the team lead with two shots apiece. Goalkeeper Megan Kim (Jr., Valrico, Fla.) improved to 2-0-1 on the season, collecting four saves in 90 minutes of action.

Alicia Commisso recorded two saves for Dowling in their first loss in seven matches on the season.

Nova Southeastern will remain at home on Wednesday, September 24th to host SSC rival Barry University at 7pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
