NSU Volleyball Dealt Two Setbacks In Lewis University Tournament

Sharks Fall To Two Nationally Ranked Opponents

Romeoville, Ill. (September 5, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team was dealt two setbacks in day one of the Lewis University Tournament, falling 3-2 to University of Indianapolis and 3-0 to host Lewis University. The Sharks fall to 3-3 on the season.

In the first game, NSU couldn't hold off University of Indianapolis, falling in five sets by the scores of 25-22, 25-27, 24-26, 25-15, and 15-12. Indianapolis, the No. 18 team in the nation, improved to 4-1 with the victory.

The Sharks fell in straight sets in their second match, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21 to No. 25 nationally ranked Lewis University.

NSU was led by senior outside Melinda Gorman (Sarasota, Fla.) with 11 kills in the match, followed by senior middle blocker Emily Carle (Missouri City, Tex.) with 10. Carle finished the match with a .500 attack percentage.

Setter Valia Petrova (Sr., Sofia, Bulgaria) tallied 28 assists and eight digs for the Sharks in the loss.

The Flyers out-hit NSU .310 to .213 in the match and out-scored the Sharks 54-44.

NSU will play two matches on Saturday, September 6th on day two of the Lewis University Tournament. The Sharks will play Wisconsin-Parkside at 2:30 pm before playing Northern Michigan at 7 pm.
