NSU Volleyball Rebounds For Two Wins In Day Two Of Lewis University Tournament

Senior Setter Valia Petrova Sets Program Record With 10 Aces vs. Wisconsin-Parkside

Romeoville, Ill. (September 5, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team team rebounded from a tough day one of the Lewis University Tournament to win two matches on day two, defeating Wisconsin-Parkside 3-2 and Northern Michigan 3-0. The Sharks record is now 5-3 on the season.

Nova Southeastern exchanged win in the first four sets with Wisconsin-Parkside before pulling away for a 15-2 victory in the match deciding fifth set. The scores of the first four sets were 25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 24-26.

Senior Setter Valia Petrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) recorded a triple-double for NSU with 39 assists, 10 aces, and 10 digs. The 10 aces sets a new program record, breaking the record of nine set by Lyndsay Savage in 2002.

Outside Hitter Melinda Gorman (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.) led the Sharks with a team high 16 kills in the match. Middle Emily Carle (Sr., Missouri City, Tex.) followed with 10 kills.

The Sharks also set a new program record with 20 aces in the match, breaking the record of 18 set on 10/29/02 vs. Florida Memorial University.

NSU beat Northern Michigan 3-0 in their second match of the day by the scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 26-24.

Outside hitter Jenerra McGruder (Jr., Euless, Tex.) and Gorman tied for the team high with 10 kills. Petrova tallied eight kills to go along with 34 assists.

Nova Southeastern will travel to Searcy, Arkansas to play four matches on Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th.
