Women's Basketball Dominates Palm Beach Atlantic

Sarosi and Edwards pace Sharks with 20 and 12 points, respectively

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2009) - With 11 of 12 players scoring at least two points, Nova Southeastern University's women's basketball team powered its way past Palm Beach Atlantic 76-37 on Monday night at the University Center. Additionally, all 12 Sharks recorded at least one assist.

NSU controlled the game from the first basket. Stephanie Sarosi (Jr., Mims, Fla.) and Stevie Kamp (Fr., Mesa, Ariz.) combined for the Sharks' first 16 points of the game as NSU was up 16-2 at 12:13 in the first half.

Palm Beach Atlantic used a 7-2 run to cut the Sharks' lead down to nine, but solid rebounding and offensive efforts allowed NSU to kept widening the margin. The Sharks eventually got a 20-point lead, the largest lead of half, as Priscilla Perez (So., Miami, Fla.) hit a jumper at 1:12 to make it a 34-14 game. Loren Wilkins' jumper for the Sailfish made it 34-16, which proved to be the score going into halftime.

NSU continued to roll in the second half. A 14-3 run by the Sharks put them up by 29 with 14:47 remaining in the game. The Sharks ultimately pushed their lead to 40 as Lauren Marshall's (So., Gladstone, Mich.) three-pointer at 5:28 to give NSU a 67-27 advantage.

The Sailfish put together an 8-2 run that had the score at 69-35 with 3:51 to go. However, NSU closed out the game with a 7-2 run that began and ended with LaShawnna Edwards (Jr., Miami, Fla.) baskets.

NSU shot 46.2 percent (30-for-65) from the floor, while Palm Beach Atlantic was 26.8 percent (15-for-56). The Sharks dominated on rebounds, pulling down 56 to Palm Beach Atlantic's 26.

Sarosi tallied a game-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high nine boards. Edwards chipped in with 12 points and a game-high three steals.

Kristine Webb led the Sailfish with nine points, while Chanell Byrd had a team-high eight rebounds.

NSU returns to action on Wednesday when the Sharks host rival Barry at the University Center. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
