FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team lost their third home match in a row by falling to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 1-0 Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.
Neither the Sharks (7-7-0) nor the Sailfish (6-5-1) could score in the first half, but the home team was much more aggressive. The Sharks took four shots on goal, more shots than the Sailfish took in the entire half.
NSU had two great opportunities to take the lead in the first 45 minutes. Romain Onteniente (Sr., Nice, France) had one when he took a shot on a free kick from 19 yards away. He attempted to put the ball in the right side of the net but the goalkeeper made a diving save to maintain the tie. Aly Hassan also had a great opportunity to score when he went one-on-one with the keeper with just a few seconds remaining in the half. He put the ball over the goalkeeper's head but it nicked the crossbar and stayed in play.
The Sharks lost their momentum in the second half as the Sailfish started to click offensively. NSU only managed to take three shots in the half to the Sailfish's seven. In the 64th minute, PBA's Tumi Magadlela shook three different defenders before he set up Johnathon Clark for the one-on-one game winning goal. The Sharks were only able to take two shots on goal for the remainder of the game but could not capitalize.
The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team will play its final road game of the regular season this Saturday, Oct. 17 when they take on Florida Tech at 4 p.m.
