FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team finished its regular season with a 1-1 tie against the St. Thomas Bobcats Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex. The Sharks finish the regular season with a 8-9-1 record.
The Sharks got off to a quick start as Romain Onteniente (Sr., Nice, France) scored his fifth goal of the year in the fifth minute. Shane Coore (So., Kingston, Jamaica) earned his first assist of the season when he dribbled up the field and set up Onteniente, who scored from the left corner of the 18-yard box. Onteniente now only needs 5 points to be the fourth NSU soccer player to crack 100 career points.
It may have been the shortest lead of the season as St. Thomas (10-4-4) tied the game in 20 seconds on an own goal. The Bobcats had a game high 13 shots in the opening half, but Lorenzo Migliavacca (Jr., Varese, Italy) answered with his best half of the season. He had eight saves in the first half, matching his season high. He would finish the game with a career-high 11 saves.
The rest of the game was much more of a defensive struggle as both teams were only able to take three more shots on goal. Aly Hassan (Jr., Weston, Fla.) had his team's best chance of scoring when his shot caught the goalkeeper off guard and hit the top left corner of the post. Hassan now ranks second on the team in shots (66), shots on goal (30), and points (16). NSU would finish the game with 24 shots, seven of which were on target.
Having clinched a spot in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, the Nova Southeastern men's soccer team will wait until Friday morning to find out its next opponent.
