WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team lost a five set match at Rollins College on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-17, 23-25 and 6-15. The loss drops the Sharks record to 11-7 on the season, including 2-3 in Sunshine State Conference play while Rollins improves to 13-6, 2-4 SSC.
The Sharks came out on top in the first set, winning 25-15. NSU hit .206 as a team and held Rollins to just a .080 attack percentage with only six kills. Freshman middle blocker Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill.) led the way with four kills.
Rollins rebounded to win the second set, 25-21. While NSU hit .222, Rollins hit a match high .438 in the set. Perschnick and junior outside hitter Lucia Cizmarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic) tied for the set lead with four kills apiece.
Regaining their composure, the Sharks ran away with the third set 25-17. Sophomore middle blocker Molly Sigerich (Downers Grove, Ill.) had a set high four kills for the Sharks, who hit a match high .324 as a team. Rollins was limited to a .189 hitting percentage.
The Tars raced out to a 17-8 lead in the fourth set before NSU began their rally. The Sharks managed to tie the match at 23 apiece before Rollins came away with the last two points to force a fifth set.
Rollins carried their momentum over into the final set to win 15-6. The Sharks aided the Tars cause, hitting -.174 with eight attack errors. Rollins hit .312 in the set.
For the match, Rollins out-hit NSU .245 to .172 even though the Sharks scored seven more points than the Tars. Perschnick led NSU with 13 kills while Pohlman had 11 and Sigerich finished with 10. Natalie Branche had a match high 15 kills for Rollins.
The Sharks continue on their road trip, traveling to Lakeland, Fla. to play Florida Southern at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9th.
