Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Nov. 14, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team was defeated in four sets by #12 Saint Leo in their regular season finale inside the Don Taft University Center on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Sharks record to 19-10 overall and 10-6 in SSC play while Saint Leo ties for the SSC crown with a 15-1 SSC record and is 28-3 overall.
The Lions out-hit NSU .199 to .079 in the match. Senior outside hitter Jenerra McGruder (Euless, Tex.) led the Sharks with 14 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Freshman middle blocker Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill.) followed with nine kills and a .308 attack percentage. Junior outside hitter Lucia Cizmarova (Bratislava, Slovak Republic) had seven kills. Junior libero Kathleen Yony (Miami, Fla.) tallied a match high 22 digs.
Saint Leo was led by Emily Calderone-Reyes with 17 kills while Danielle Bletso had 13.
The three seniors on the Sharks roster, McGruder, Alison Kalish (Miami, Fla.) and Valia Petrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) were honored for their contributions to the NSU Volleyball program before the match.
The Sharks now await a bid for their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA post-season.
