TAMPA, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2009) -The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team was knocked out of the Sunshine State Conference tournament Friday night when they fell to the No. 8 Tampa Spartans, 3-0 in the semifinals match. The Sharks finish their season with an 8-10-2 overall record.
The Sharks were firing away in the first half, but could not put the ball in the net. They took eight shots in the first 45 minutes, three of which were on goal. Tampa (17-1-1) took advantage of NSU's scoreless half and built a two point advantage. Tampa's Lister Warren scored on two headers, first off of a corner kick and the next off a free kick.
The Sharks stepped up their offense in the second half with 11 shots. Unfortunately, none of their four second half shots on goal scored. Tampa wrapped up their goals when Pascal Milien's shot bounced off the crossbar and rolled into the goal.
Overall, NSU had just as many opportunities as Tampa. Both teams took a total of 19 shots with seven shots on target a piece. The Sharks were also called for nine fouls and received four yellow cards.
