MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team fell to 0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference Tuesday night by dropping a road match to the Barry Buccaneers, 3-1.

The first half didn't go as the Sharks (4-4-0, 0-2-0 SSC) planned as they fell into a 3-0 hole in the first half. Barry's (4-3-1, 1-1-0 SSC) Joe Conkleton, Mark Anderson, and Alvaro Yusty each scored in the opening period. The Sharks were dormant on offense but switched into a different gear right before halftime. They took five of their eight shots in the final ten minutes. Unfortunately the accuracy was not there as only one shot was on goal.

Although the Sharks were clearly aggressive in the second half, they still only managed to get four shots on goal. The Sharks had their opportunities as both Darryl Gordon (Jr., Miami Fl.) and Romain Onteniente (Sr., Nice, France) had attempts within ten yards of the goal on the right side. Goalkeeper Johnny Rodrigues was forced to make highlight saves to keep the Sharks scoreless.

Despite the deficit, Craig Heenighan (Jr., Widnes England) continued to play hard and put the Sharks on the board with only five minutes left. Heenighan scored from 20 yards out off of a free kick from the left side.

The game got very chippy in final minutes of the game as the refs dished out eight total cards in the half. Alvin Quaye (So., London, England) received the worst punishment of the game with a red card in the 70th minute. He will be unavailable for the Sharks' next outing.

The Nova Southeastern men's soccer team will return to home this Friday to take on No. 25 West Florida at 7 p.m.
