Men's Soccer Carries Momentum into Saint Leo

Men look to build on first conference win


FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University Sharks men’s soccer team (5-4-2, 1-4-0 SSC) travels to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on the Lions of Saint Leo University (8-3-0, 2-3-0 SSC) on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 pm. NSU is looking for their first win on the Lions pitch. This marks the fifth consecutive Sunshine State conference match for the Sharks this season.

The Sharks come into this game capturing their first SSC win last Wednesday, Oct. 13, pulling out a 4-2 victory over conference foe Eckerd College. Freshman Matthew Ilter lead the team scoring two goals for NSU, while Stian Roa (Fr., Oslo, Norway) did his part dishing out two assists. Ilter’s two goals improved his goal on the year to four, while Roa’s assist doubled his assists on the season to four.

Keeper Lyle Howe enters the game owning a 1.29 goals against average, while carrying 47 saves on the season and a .758 save percentage.

“This is an important game,” head coach Giuseppe Depalo said, “If we can win this game, we are right back in the mix.”

NSU leads the series 7-5-2. Last season the Sharks defeated the Lions 3-2 at the NSU Soccer Complex on Oct. 23. NSU lost 1-3 last time they met with the Lions on Saint Leo’s pitch in 2008. The Sharks hold a 0-4-2 all-time record on Saint Leo’s pitch.
