FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (8-15, 3-9 SSC) dropped three straight sets to the Lynn Fighting Knights, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21, Sunday afternoon in the Arena at the Don Taft University Center.
The Fighting Knights (18-7, 9-3 SSC) outhit the Sharks, .245 to .127.
Sophomore
Rachel Woodson (Rogers, Ark.) finished with a match high 12 kills while libero
Kathleen Yony (Sr., Miami, Fla.) also finished a match-high 15 digs. Sophomore
Jordan Pappas dished a match high 32 assist but 23 attack errors by the Sharks was the eventual downfall to the NSU offense.
Lynn dominated the entire match with the Sharks only taking the lead once and that was in the first set at 2-1. Junior
Paola Ruiz killed a ball to even the set at 5-5 but Lynn scored four straight points to retake the lead. The Sharks pulled within two at 20-18 on a kill by
Molly Sigerich (Jr., Downers Grove, Ill.) and a solo block by
Danielle Graham (So., Cincinnati, Ohio). Lynn ended up taking the early 1-0 lead with a 25-21 win.
In the second set, Lynn held the Sharks to a .053 attack percentage as they won in double-digits, 25-15.
Down 2-0, Lynn scored the first six points in the third frame. NSU went on a 10-7 run to pull within three. Costly attack errors once again put the Sharks down by six at 18-12. Back-to-back kills by Sigerich and Woodson pulled the Sharks within reach, only down 22-20. The Fighting Knights scored three of the next four points to blank NSU in the win.
The Sharks will stay in Fort Lauderdale to host Florida Southern on Friday at 7 p.m. and face Rollins on Saturday at 4 p.m.
