Women's Volleyball Sharks and Buccaneers Meet for First Time This Season

Volleyball Set To Face Barry On Tuesday

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (5-9, 2-4 SSC) will continue conference play on the road as the Sharks prepare to face the Barry Buccaneers (8-2, 5-1 SSC) tomorrow at 7 p.m. down the road in Miami Shores, Fla.

Heading into tomorrows match, Barry sits second in the Sunshine State Conference standings while the Sharks are seventh.

The Bucs have the advantage over the Sharks with a series record of 24-4. The two teams split last season with Barry taking the first match on Sept. 15, 3-1. Nova rebounded to take the Oct. 27th match, shutting out the Bucs, 3-0.

Senior Paola Ruiz (Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) heads into the match leading the team with 2.29 kills per set while sophomore setter Jordan Pappas (Naperville, Ill.), as of Sept. 26th, sits 36 nationally with 10.02 assists per frame. Nova’s other senior, libero Kathleen Yony (Miami, Fla.), is in the top-3 in the SSC averaging 5.00 digs per set.

This past weekend, the Sharks dropped both conference matches falling to Rollins 3-0 on Friday before Florida Southern edged out Nova in five sets, 3-2.

Sophomore Rachel Woodson (Rogers, Ark.) recorded 18 kills in the five set battle against the Mocs, setting a new career high. With 51 assists, Pappas set a new personal best in SSC matches. Yony added 30 digs, recording 30 or more for the third time this year.

Barry picked up a three-set win on the road over the Tars outhitting Rollins College, 51 kills to 25, on Saturday afternoon. Ady Alcantara had 14 kills and an ace in the Buccaneer win over Rollins. The Buccaneers stumbled against Florida Southern on Friday, losing 3-0 for its first conference loss of the year.
