Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (5-10, 2-5 SSC) faces one of the nations top volleyball team in conference opponent Tampa Spartans tomorrow at 4 p.m. at The Arena in the Don Taft University Center.
The Sharks will look to snap a three game losing streak against the No. 5 team in the nation. NSU has only defeated Tampa once in 16 matches. That win came back in 2008 as the Sharks upset the nationally ranked Spartans in five sets.
Nova Southeastern will turn to its seniors Paola Ruiz (Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) and Kathleen Yony (Miami, Fla.) to lead them in this battle. Ruiz is the team leader in kills with 160 and Yony sits at No. 30 in the nation, averaging 5.0 digs per set.
Junior Molly Sigerich (Downers Grove, Ill.), who recently moved to sixth on NSU’s all-time block list with 215, is just five short of tying Irene Girgis for fifth place.
The Spartans currently holds second-longest active streak while being ranked for 197 straight weeks and has been represented in national top-10 every week since 2004 final poll.
Tampa won previous five SSC championships and holds 18 total league titles. Head coach Chris Catanach entered season as the winningest active coach by win percentage (.840) and ranks fourth in wins (823).
