WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 24, 2010) - The Nova Southeastern University men's basketball team lost 65-54 at Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Sharks to 13-13 on the season while PBA improves to 3-22.
The Sharks struggled in the first half of play, hitting just 27.6 percent (8-29) of their shots while committing 12 turnovers. Sophomore guard Teddy Tassy (Boca Raton, Fla.) kept NSU in the game, scoring 12 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor. NSU did convert on 9-11 free throw attempts in the half.
Nova Southeastern's struggles continued in the second half. The Sharks led 31-28 with nineteen minutes remaining before the Sailfish went on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to lead 41-33. NSU was unable to put a dent into PBA's lead, cutting it down to just seven points, before the Sailfish captured the 65-54 victory.
The 54 points marks the lowest scoring output of the season for NSU. Their previous low was 58 points in their season opener at University of Miami on 11/16/09. The Sharks shot just 29.8 percent from the game, including 23.5 percent on three-pointers. In addition NSU was out-rebounded 44-40 and committed five more turnovers.
Tassy led the Sharks in scoring with 15 points. Junior guard John Brooks (Riverside, Calif.) was the only other NSU player in double figures with 10 points. Junior center Ross Allsop (Sydney, Australia) collected a team high eight rebounds.
DeAndre Williams led the Sailfish with 20 points.
The Sharks travel to Lakeland, Fla. to face the Florida Southern Moccasins in their regular season finale on Saturday, February 27th at 7:30 p.m.
