Womens Soccer Rolls Past Barry 3-0

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.Malin Broberg (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden) played a part in the first two goals, as the Nova Southeastern University Sharks (5-3-0, 2-0-0 SSC) defeated the Barry University Buccaneers (6-3-0, 2-1-0 SSC) 3-0 in a Sunshine State Conference game on a rainy Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The first goal came in the seventh minute as Kesiah Wattley (Sr., Panama City, Panama) centered a ball from the right side to a waiting Broberg for her third goal of the season. Six minutes later, a foul was committed by Barry just outside the box resulting in a penalty kick from 25 feet away. Broberg tapped the ball to the booted cleat of Alexis Hernandez (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) for the second goal of the game, the last of the first half.

The rain picked up early during the second half, resulting in both teams having lesser opportunities to score. In the 82nd minute Hernandez broke through the rain drops booting in her second goal of the game, fifth on the season, from a crossing pass from Wattley.

The Sharks displayed more offense throughout the game, out-shooting the Buccaneers in both halves, for a total shot edge of 13-8.

Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Chrissy Hy (So., Weston, Fla.) tallied six saves for the game, while Barry’s keeper, Mikaela Barboza grabbed four.

Nova Southeastern hits the pitch again in Winter Park, Fla. to face Rollins College Saturday, Oct. 2 at 8 pm.
