Box Score

(FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.)--The Nova Southeastern University women’s soccer team captured its first win Wednesday night, knocking off the Florida Memorial Lions, 4-0 in their 2010 home opener at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The Sharks (1-2-0) struck quickly as Alexis Hernandez (Sr., Pembroke Pines Fla.) scored a goal off a pass from Raye Salkey (Fr., Palm Bay, Fla.) through two defenders up the middle of the field in the 11th minute. It was Hernandez’s first goal of the season. NSU carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Nova Southeastern came out on fire in the second half with Keshia Wattley (Sr., Panama City, Panama) finding the net six minutes into the second period off a centering pass from Lindsey Nowland (So., Cape Coral, Fla.).

NSU spread the game open in the 59th minute to 3-0 when Wattley got behind the FMU (0-3-0) defense, caught a pass over Lion defenders and dribbled in for a shot passed the FMU goalkeeper.

In the 68th minute Alexandria Siciliano (Fr. New Hyde Park, NY) was tripped in the box resulting in a penalty kick. She booted her penalty kick past the Lions’ keeper in the upper left corner of the net to score the fourth and final goal for the Sharks.

The Sharks controlled the pace of the game, taking 25 shots to the Lions’ three and serving nine corner kicks to Florida Memorial’s zero.

Chrissy Hy played all 90 minutes for the Sharks and secured her first win of the season while collecting two saves in the game.

NSU hits the pitch at home again this Sunday, Sept. 12 against Embry Riddle at 5 pm.
