Women’s Soccer Loses a Close Match to No. 13 Rollins

The Sharks were unable to mount their second comeback victory of the week.

In front of a large enthusiastic crowd at the NSU Soccer Complex, the Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (8-3-2, 2-2-2 SSC) dropped a pivotal Sunshine State Conference match to No. 13 Rollins (10-1-1, 5-1 SSC), 1-0.

The Tars scored during the fourth minute of the match when Ashley Waplinger drew Sharks goalkeeper Chrissy Hy (Sr., Weston, Fla.) (4-1-0) from goal and touch passed the ball to Kelsey Boone for the open net goal.

Rollins maintained their 1-0 lead at halftime as both teams played each other even the remainder of the period.

The Sharks were able to erase the same deficit in its previous game against Lynn, to win 2-1. Unfortunately for the Sharks they were unable to mount a similar come-from-behind victory against the Tars.

Goalkeeper, Michlle Dillingham (10-1-1) was credited with the win for Rollins; she made three saves and recorded her 11th shutout of the season.

Sharks goalkeeper Hy, made her first start in goal for the Sharks since Sept. 16, and was credited with the loss after making five saves and allowing one goal in laying 90 minutes.

The Sharks attempted two corner kicks, nine shots and three of the shots were on goal.

Rollins attempted three corner kicks, eight shots and six of the shots were on goal.

The Sharks entered the match in third-place in the SSC standings behind Rollins in second-place and Saint Leo in first-place. 

The Sharks will play again another SSC match at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Florida Tech.
