NSU Men’s Soccer Falls at FIT, 2-0

The Panthers defeat the Sharks Saturday.

BOX SCORE

MELBOURNE, Fla.
– The Nova Southeastern men’s soccer (3-9-1, 1-6-0, SSC) team battled a tough squad Saturday, but fell at Florida Tech (8-4-1, 4-1-1), 2-0.

The opening minutes of the first half were a contested fight, but in the 19th minute Francisco Ubiera drove up the middle of the field uncontested for the Panthers and drove a shot into the right side of the goal to give FIT the early advantage.

The Sharks were able to play solid defense through the remainder of the opening frame to keep the Panthers' lead at 1-0. In the opening stages of the second frame, Drake Hillman was able to jump up and head in a Linus Rikardsson free kick into the back of the net to improve the FIT lead to 2-0.

The free kick came off of a Phillip Klaus (Fr., Lippstad, Germany) yellow card, the first of two for the Sharks. Andrea Giombetti (Fr., Rome, Italy) picked up NSU’s second card of the match in a squabble, during which, FIT’s Kalle Mansson was also issued a yellow card.

Despite keeping the Panthers off the board the remainder of the game, the Sharks were held scoreless, although NSU racked up three more corner kick opportunities, 7-4,  than the Panthers. The Sharks offensive scheme was limited overall, putting only two shots on goal, both in the second half against the Panthers.

NSU will look to rebound against Saint Thomas at the NSU Soccer Complex, Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.
