FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (6-17, 2-9 SSC) will make the short trip to Lynn (11-12, 4-6 SSC) Saturday afternoon for its second match against the Fighting Knights this season. The Sharks won the first match Sept. 23, 3-0, at NSU Arena.
NSU enters the match on its best streak of the season, having won two of its last three matches. The Sharks knocked off Central Oklahoma a week ago, 3-1, and then defeated conference rival Barry, 3-0.
Defense has been at the forefront of the Sharks’ winning ways, blocking a total of 29 attacks through the past three matches. Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.) has set the standard for the Sharks with three solo blocks and 10 blocking assists in those matches. She has registered a team-leading 73 total blocks this season.
The Sharks’ offense has also performed well recently, led by Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Anabely Escarpita (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.). Graham has racked up 39 kills during the past three matches, including a 19-kill performance in a sweep of Barry on Tuesday. Escarpita has accounted for 27 kills in the same span with a hitting percentage of .316.
Lynn, currently sixth in the SSC standings, will play a pair of conference matches this weekend, hosting both Florida Tech and NSU. The Fighting Knights have had a tough stretch of late, dropping their last five matches.
Brittany Brown is pacing the Fighting Knights with a 3.35 kills per set average, fourth-best in the SSC. As a team, Lynn leads the conference in service aces per set with 1.72. Shannon Dugan has tallied 29 this season for a per set average of 0.35, third in the SSC, while teammate Michelle Jordan is sixth in the conference with 0.33 per set mark.
