Women’s Soccer Battles No. 6 Saint Leo to a Tie

Both high-powered offenses were unable to find the net.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (7-2-2, 1-1-2 SSC) played an exciting, 0-0 (2OT), game against No. 6 Saint Leo (10-0-1, 3-0-1 SSC), serving the Lions their first non-win of the season.

Although the score reveals a tie between the teams, the box score suggests the Sharks were able to maintain momentum after halftime. The Sharks outshot Saint Leo 17 to one in the second period and two overtimes.

Leading scorer, Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden) took the most shots for the Sharks, attempting seven. Broberg has scored seven goals this season.

Sharks goalkeeper, Michelle Fuerst (Jr., Armonk, N.Y.) (3-2-2) and Lions goalkeeper Laura Carstens (7-0-1) made four saves in 110 minutes and both notched their third shutout of the season.

Both teams’ inability to find the net is contrary to their production entering the game. The Sharks ranked fourth nationally in goal per game with 3.5, while the Lions were ranked third with 3.6 goals per game.

Within the Sunshine State Conference the Sharks and Lions were ranked one and two, respectively, in total points entering the game.

The Sharks take the field again at 1 p.m., Tues. Oct. 11 at Lynn.
