FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (4-13, 1-6 SSC) easily dispatched of the visiting Seton Hill Griffins (14-7) in three sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-20) Thursday night at the NSU Arena.
Lauren Lewkowicz (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) got the Sharks off to a quick start, opening the match with a kill and a service ace. The early 2-0 lead set the pace for the first set as NSU would lead through its entirety.
With the Sharks leading 11-9
Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) slammed home a kill, Lewkowicz notched another service ace,
Samantha High (So., Naples, Fla.) nailed two kills and Graham registered yet another kill to force a Seton Hill timeout. Numerous errors doomed the Griffins during the remainder of the set as the Sharks took the opener, 25-15.
The Griffins took the first point of the second set, but it would be their only lead in the frame.
Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Gorve, Ill.), High, Graham and
Jordan Pappas (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) reeled off kills to give the Sharks a 4-3 advantage. An Escarpita and Sigerich block pushed the NSU lead to eight, 12-4, and two additional Sigerich kills in the middle of the set extended the lead to nine, 15-6.
Pappas’ service ace to bring the score to 21-14 forced another Seton Hill timeout before Sigerich capped the set with her sixth kill of the match.
The early stages of the third set proved more competitive as the Griffins remained tied with the Sharks at 8-8 following a Larissa Santangelo kill. NSU would pull away though, as Pappas and Graham teamed up for a block to give the Sharks a 17-13 advantage.
The Sharks would recorded seven more kills through the remainder of the third set as
Paige Boivin (Jr., Plainfield, Ill.) and
Destiny Bannister (Fr., Homestead, Fla.) got in on the offensive action for NSU. In the closest set of the night, NSU would take it 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
Graham led all attackers with 12 kills, hitting at a .476 clip. As a team, the Sharks racked up eight kills to the Griffins one. Graham had one solo block and assisted on three others, while Sigerich assisted on four and Escarptia had a trio of blocking assists. Boivin recorded a match-high 27 digs. Rebecca Robinson had eight kills to lead the Griffins.
