BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (8-20, 4-12 SSC) sent its three seniors off on a positive note, knocking off Rollins (23-10, 11-5 SSC), 3-2, (25-21, 25-18, 16-25, 21-25, 15-10) Saturday afternoon at NSU Arena.

The Sharks opened an early 5-2 lead on the Tars, as Rachel Woodson (Jr., Rogers, Ark.), Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Samantha High (So., Naples, Fla.) recorded kills. The teams continued to trade points throughout the set before Anabely Escarpita (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.) slammed home a kill to put NSU ahead 23-19 and bring out a Rollins timeout.

After the break, Escarpita paired with fellow senior Molly Sigerich (Downers Grove, Ill.) to block a Megan Hodges attack. Escarpita capped the first set for the Sharks, 25-21, with another kill.

NSU grabbed a 5-2 lead again in the second set, this time after a Graham service ace. A three-point streak in which Jordan Pappas (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) and Graham registered kills and Sigerich notched a great service ace, put NSU ahead by three 11-8.

The Sharks lead extended to 20-15 when Sigerich and Graham nailed back-to-back kills. Paige Boivin secured the second set for NSU with a service ace.

NSU created a 6-2 lead to start the third set with an Escarpita kill. The Tars rallied though, and tied the set at 13-13 with a Collyn Welsch kill. The Sharks would get only three points the remainder of the set, as Rollins cut NSU’s set lead in half, 2-1.

For the fourth straight set, NSU took an early lead on the Tars, this time 4-1, with four kills from three different players, including Kristina Eric’s (So., Bosnia) first. Rollins rallied again, evening the set, 17-17, behind another kill from Hodges.

NSU used a late timeout, but the Tars were able to win the set, 25-21, on a kill from Welsch.

High and Escarpita built the early lead in the decisive set, each recording a kill out of the gate. The Sharks lead grew to four, 11-7, after Graham tallied a pair of kills, forcing Rollins to use a timeout. Graham added two more, to give her a match-high 23, and give NSU a 15-10 set win and 3-2 match victory.

Escarpita recorded 12 kills in her final match with the Sharks, while Sigerich had four kills and three blocking assists. High contributed 15 kills for the Sharks. Hodges led the Tars with 18 kills in the match.

Prior to the match, seniors Sigerich, Escarpita and Paola Ruiz (Sr., Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) were honored for their great careers at NSU.
