BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE
, Fla. Freshman Danielle Robinson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) converted on six-of-10 3-point attempts, and the Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team (4-1) topped the visiting Bemidji State Beavers (2-1), 74-45, in the second game of the NSU Thanksgiving Classic. Jasmine Wilkins (So., Miami, Fla.) secured her first double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Robinson got NSU on the board early, knocking down a trey 15 seconds into the first half. Wilkins gave the Sharks a 5-0 lead at the 18:24 mark when she converted a fast break layup off a Jessica Walter (Sr., Knoxville, Tenn.) steal.

Jessica Russi (So., Lake Mary, Fla.) pushed the NSU advantage to seven points, 9-2, when she took a steal of her own coast-to-coast and laid in a contested shot. The Beavers rallied though, going on a 7-2 run, capped by a Samantha Baldwin 3-pointer.

Robinson helped extend the Sharks lead back to eight points, 18-10, when she sank another 3-pointer and then added a  free throw with 9:25 remaining in the half. Elliie Wessling got the Beavers back to within four, making a pair from the charity stripe.

The Sharks responded again, pushing the lead to nine points behind Robinson's third trey of the opening half. Bemidji got within five at halftime when Morgan Lee knocked down a jumper in transition to go into half down by only five, 25-20.

At the break, Robinson led all scorers with 12 points, while Wilkins chipped in seven. The Sharks blocked four Beaver shot attempts and tallied seven steals in the first 20 minutes of play.

NSU opened the second half on a 7-0 run, with Robinson drilling another 3-pointer and Wilkins dropping in two layups. The Beavers stayed within eight points, as Shannon Thompson and Wessling each knocked down a pair of free throws.

The Sharks then went on a 21-10 run that lasted 7:12. Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) started the run with her first trey of the game and Wilkins capped the run with yet another layup.

After a Wessling bucket, the Sharks went on a 14-4 run that pushed their lead to 31 points, 72-41, with 3:44 remaining on the clock. Walter and Robinson each buried shots from behind the arc during that span.

Jada Buckner (Sr., Loudon, Tenn.) finished the game with a good free throw to give NSU the victory, 74-45.

The Sharks out-rebounded the Beavers, 54-35. NSU grabbed 27 boards on each side of the court, which led to 22 second-chance points. Wilkins snagged a game-high 10 points, while Robinson, Porter and Russi each snared seven. Robinson matched her season-high 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting, while also dishing out three assists and notching three steals. Porter, who had zero points in the first half, finished the game with 12.

NSU will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 26, in the final game of the NSU Thanksgiving Classic. The Sharks will take on Southwest Minnesota State at 4 p.m.
