Ruiz Drafted in Top Puerto Rican Volleyball League

Senior Paola Ruiz was selected in the first round of the Women’s Superior Volleyball League draft.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Women’s Superior Volleyball League in Puerto Rico held its draft for the upcoming 2012 season and Paola Ruiz (Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico), a senior outside hitter on the Nova Southeastern volleyball team was selected in the first round by Caguas Creoles.
 
“We are absolutely thrilled for Paola and her family,” said NSU head coach Steve Wilcosky. “This is a great honor and we wish her continued success as she continues her career at the professional level.”
 
Ruiz missed the current season for NSU due to a knee injury she suffered in the preseason. During here career with the Sharks, Ruiz has appeared in 84 matches and 286 sets. She has tallied 662 kills with a 2.31 kills per set average. Her best season came as a junior when she played in 101 sets and recorded a 2.79 kills per set average, 10th in the Sunshine State Conference.
 
Ruiz has also been an integral part of the Sharks’ defense in her career, racking up 741 digs for a 2.59 per set average. She has also recorded 52 total blocks as a Shark.
