FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (12-11, 5-8 SSC) will look their avenge an overtime loss earlier in the season this Saturday, Feb. 19 on the road against the Tampa Spartans (19-5, 8-5 SSC) at 4 p.m.
The Sharks are coming off a heartbreaking loss against Barry in which NSU lost on a buzzer-beater on the road. The Sharks entered the game with three straight wins over the Buccaneers by two points apiece but the Sharks could not pull out their fourth consecutive one possession game versus Barry.
With a spot in the Sunshine State Conference locked up, the Sharks are competing for a better seed with the Bucs. NSU currently sits in sixth place with a half-game lead over Barry. As the Sharks have their hands full with a Spartan team that was nationally ranked this season, the Bucs will travel to play the Lynn Fighting Knights who are 3-10 in SSC play.
In NSU’s last game against Tampa, the Sharks dropped an overtime thriller at home to the then 12th ranked Spartans, 86-78. Senior forward
Alex Gynes (Sr., Nowra, Australia) led the Sharks with a team-high 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the floor. Gynes pulled down a team-best five rebounds, as did
Teddy Tassy (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.) who also scored 10 points.
The Sharks are 8-14 all-time against the Spartans but they are 3-2 against Tampa over the last five games.
