FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team (2-6) will open up both its’ home and conference schedule Tuesday evening when it welcomes Saint Leo (4-3) to the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
The Sharks are coming off a 2-2 weekend at the North Alabama Classic heading into the match with the Lions. NSU toppled a previously undefeated Harding team in five sets to open the tournament Thursday night. The Sharks struggled offensively on Friday, dropping matches to Christian Brothers and North Alabama before getting back on track with a 3-1 win over Queens Saturday.
Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and Anabely Escarpita (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.) lead the Sharks offensively, averaging 2.81 and 2.68 kills per set. Graham recorded double-digit kills in three matches in Florence, Ala., while Escarpita threw in a 20 kill performance against Harding. Graham also leads the Sharks in blocks with a 0.97 per set average, while Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.) is second averaging 0.90 each set.
Saint Leo heads to Fort Lauderdale carrying a 4-3 overall record, 0-1 on the road in 2011. The Lions were also in action at the North Alabama classic over the weekend, losing matches to Christian Brothers and North Alabama before finishing play with a 3-1 win over Queens.
Senior Danielle Bletso paces the Lions with a 3.32 kills per set average, attacking at .332 percent. Emily Calderon-Reyes is second in both kills and digs per set, averaging 2.29 and 3.64, respectively.
Prior to the match, the women’s golf team will be honored in a ring and banner ceremony recognizing its 2011 NCAA national championship.
