ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. –The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer(5-1-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Coker (0-7-0), 6-0.
Dilja Olafsdottir (So., Reykjavik, Iceland) initiated the barrage of goals with her second goal of the season after a corner kick by
Kelsey McCusker (Fr., Stone Harbor, N.J.) from the left corner placed the ball perfectly for Olafsdottir to stick a header into the net.
McCusker would score the next goal for the Sharks on a 20-yard bomb from the center of the field, after a pass from
Melissa Madden (Fr., Vero Beach, Fla) gave her room for the attempt. The goal was the first of the season for McCusker and the second assist of the season for Madden.
The Sharks would score three more goals in the period receiving a goal from
Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden),
Sarah Wareham (Sr., Davie, Fla.) and
Brittany Bacallao (Fr., West Palm Beach, Fla.). Broberg would score again at the 51:15 mark giving her five goals on the season, while the goals for Wareham was her third, and the goal for Bacallao was the first of her collegiate career.
The Sharks would outshoot Coker 25 to two leading to a busy day for Coker goalkeeper Haley Gibson, (0-7-0) she logged 90-minutes allowed six goals, made six saves, and was credited with the loss.
Michelle Fuerst (Jr., Armonk, N.Y) (1-1-0)would register her first shutout of the season and would receive credit for the win after a 90-minute, one save performance in goal.
The Sharks play again on Sept. 21, at the NSU Soccer Complex against Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern at 6 p.m.
