Women’s Soccer Ties in SSC Opener

Melissa Madden found the net for the Sharks in the 1-1 (2OT) game.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (5-1-1, 0-0-1 SSC) played a truly even game, tying Florida Southern (4-2-1, 1-0-1 SSC), 1-1 (2OT), in its first Sunshine State Conference game of the season.

After 85-mintues of back-and-forth soccer featuring several near goals, Melissa Madden (Fr., Vero Beach, Fla.) found the net for the third time of the season at 85:25 for the Sharks. Her goal came after a well-placed cross by Shadia Blair (Fr., Springfield, Mass.) gave her the opportunity.

With the home crowd still in frenzy for a Sharks victory, Alex Hoover found the net for Florida Southern less than a minute later at 86:13.

The two teams would play two overtimes close, but like the first 85-minutes of the contest, neither was able to capitalize on opportunities.

Both teams mirrored one-another on the scoreboard and nearly did the same throughout the stat sheet. Florida Southern committed seven fouls, took five corner-kicks, and attempted 15 shots while the Sharks committed four fouls, took five corner-kicks, and took 17 shots.

Both goalkeepers played the entire 110 minutes of the game with Martina Tangen (4-2-1) making seven saves for the Mocs and Michelle Fuerst (Jr., Armonk, N.Y.) (1-1-1) making four saves for the Sharks.

The Sharks play again at the NSU Soccer Complex on Sat., Sept., 24, against Texas A&M International at 7:00 p.m.
