Women’s Soccer Welcomes the Dustdevils for a Non-Conference Showdown

The Sharks are 5-1 in non-conference games this season.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (5-1-1, 0-0-1 SSC) will depart from its Sunshine State Conference schedule to face non-conference opponent Texas A&M International (1-5-0, 0-1-0 HC), at 7 p.m. Sat., Sept. 24 at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The match will be the second consecutive home game for the Sharks, following its exciting, 1-1 (2OT), game against conference rival Florida Southern. During the first 85 minutes of play both teams nearly netted opportunities. The scoring would begin in the 85th-minute with Melissa Madden (Fr., Vero Beach, Fla.) finding the net after receiving a cross from Shadia Blair (Fr., Springfield, Mass.). Florida Southern would respond, scoring the game tying goal less than a minute later.

Madden has been red hot of late, totaling three goals and two assists for eight points over the past four games.

Texas A&M International is also entering the match after facing a tough conference opponent, losing to fellow Heartland Conference member St. Mary’s, 4-0. It was the second game of the season Texas A&M International failed to find the net, the other time occurred against #21 Albilene Christian (5-0-1) in a 4-0 loss.

The Dustdevils have scored four goals on the season averaging .067 goals per game, receiving four goals from four different players.

The goal distribution for the Sharks is also spread out with 15 different Sharks finding the net, yet they have totaled 28 goals averaging four goals-per-game. The Sharks have allowed 11 goals by opponents in seven games this season an average of 1.57 goals per game.

Goalkeeper Michelle Fuerst (1-1-1) (Jr., Armonk, N.Y.) started the last game for the Sharks. She has made 10 saves, allowed three goals and played 285:02 minutes in goal.

Dustdevils goalkeeper Noemi Salazar (1-5-0), started in goal for Texas A&M International in its previous game and managed four saves in the contest, bringing her season total to 38 in six games played, second best in the Heartland Conference.

The Dustdevils are 1-4 in non-conference matches this season, winning a neutral site game against Ouachita Baptist (2-2-0), 1-0. The Sharks are 5-1-0 in non-conference games.
