Women’s Soccer Aims for Third-Consecutive Win over Barry Wednesday

The SSC matchup pits a strong offense against a strong defense.

LIVE STATS

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On Wed., Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. the Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (6-1-1, 0-0-1 SSC) will travel to Barry (3-4, 0-1 SSC) for a conference game featuring a classic matchup between a high powered offense and a stingy defense.

Entering the week the Sharks have scored the second-most goals in the Sunshine State Conference with 32, while the Buccaneers have recorded the second-most saves with 46 and fourth-most shutouts with three.

The goals total over eight games gives the Sharks an average of four goals per game, fourth best in the country. Precise timely passes have been the catalyst for the Sharks’ success on offense, totaling 34 assists, the highest team total in the conference.

The great teamwork has allowed Malin Broberg (So., Stockholm, Sweden) and Shanoska Young (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica) to leave opposing goalkeepers baffled as they have repeatedly netted shots or assisted teammates on goals. Broberg’s average of two points per game on six goals and four assists ranks 29th in the country and Young’s 1.88 points per game average on six goals and three assists ranks 40th.

Melissa Toledo (1-1) has played all 180 minutes in goal for Barry in its previous two games, making 16 saves and allowing one goal in Barry’s 1-0 loss to No. 11 Rollins.

Although goals were hard to come by for Barry against Rollins they have been able to find the net eleven times on the season, relying heavily on the feet of Melissa Madrid. She leads the team in points and goals with 10 and four, respectively.

Like Dillingham, Sharks goalkeeper Michelle Fuerst (Jr., Armonk, N.Y.)(2-1-1) has been tough to score on of late. She has allowed one goal in her last three starts, making seven saves in her 272:31 in goal over the three games.

The Sharks defeated Barry in its previous matchup 3-0 receiving a goal and an assist from Broberg. The Sharks are 4-0-1 in the previous five matchups against Barry.
