Volleyball Faces Stiff Test Wednesday Against Palm Beach Atlantic

Sharks look to put a dent in the Sailfish’s 11-1 record.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team (3-9, 1-3) will host Palm Beach Atlantic (11-1) Wednesday evening at the NSU Arena. First serve inside the Don Taft University Center is set for 7 p.m.

The Sharks enter the match against Sailfish having defeated Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn, 3-0, Friday evening. NSU put together three solid sets, led offensively by Anabely Escarpita (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.) with 15 kills.

Escarpita is averaging 2.82 kills per set to lead the Sharks. Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) is second on the team with a 2.50 kills per set average. Graham and Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.) are tied for the team lead in blocks with 0.86 per set.

The Sailfish come to Fort Lauderdale sporting an 11-1 record in 2011. PBA is currently on a four-match win streak, having last beaten Florida Tech, 3-0, Sept. 21. The lone team to defeat the Sailfish has been Eckerd, 3-2, back on Sept. 9. Each of PBA’s victories this season have been three-set sweeps.

Mariela Quesada paces the Sailfish with a 3.86 kills per set average. Lisa Jedlicka (2.95) and Christina Alessi (2.16) are each contributing over two kills per set also. Becca Acevedo leads PBA in assists per set, 9.95, and service aces with 33 this season.
