Palm Beach Atlantic Defeats NSU Volleyball, 3-0

Sharks drop out-of-conference match to Sailfish Wednesday night.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
– The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team (3-10, 1-3) was defeated in straight sets Wednesday night by Palm Beach Atlantic at the NSU Arena. The Sailfish won by set scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-14.

The first set opened with the Sharks trailing by one, 6-5, following Rachel Woodson's (Jr., Roger Ark.) second consecutive kill. PBA took over from then on, opening a 10-5 gap that forced a NSU timeout and then pushed the lead to 18-6 with back-to-back Becca Acevedo service aces. The Sailfish would ease out to a 25-12 set victory.

Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) opened the second set with a kill for the Sharks and NSU built a 7-4 advantage following a Lauren Lewkowicz (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) and Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.) block and Sailfish attack error.

PBA battled back though, getting six kills over the course of the remainder of the set from Mariela Quesada. The sailfish won the second set 25-17.

The Sharks opened the third set with a 3-2 lead as Kristina Eric (So., Sokolac, Bosnia) and Samantha High (Fr., Naples, Fla.) notched kills. Four kills from four different Sailfish would turn the tides and give PBA a six-point advantage, 10-4, and force a NSU timeout.

Graham would add three more kills for the Sharks and Sarah Shifflett (Fr., Boyton Beach, Fla.) would contribute a service ace, but it was not enough as the Sailfish took the third set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.

Mariela Quesada recorded a match-high 19 kills with a .600 hitting percentage for the Sailfish. For the Sharks, Woodson, Graham and Anabely Escarpita (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.) each tallied five kills.
