BOX SCORE
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team (3-11, 1-4) gave a strong effort Friday evening, but the Sharks fell in three sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-21) to Rollins (10-7, 3-2) at Warden Arena.
The Tars built a 6-1 advantage to begin the match, but the Sharks battled back. A block by
Samantha High (So., Naples, Fla.) and a kill from
Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.) knotted the match at 6-6. A duo of Megan Hodges kills for Rollins, sandwiched around a Sharks attack error, gave the Tars a 12-7 lead, forcing a NSU timeout.
The Sharks managed to close the gap to three, 15-12, midway through the set, but kills from Jessica Wilson and Camille Indest pushed the Rollins’ lead back to six, 18-12, and brought another timeout from the Sharks bench.
Danielle Graham (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) and
Kristina Eric (So., Sokolac, Bosnia) would each notch kills for the Sharks after the break, but the Tars would go on to take the set 25-20.
Rollins opened the second set with five straight points, but an Eric block trimmed the deficit to two, 5-3. After the Tars began to build a small lead,
Rachel Woodson (Jr., Rogers Ark.) and Eric would each add another kill to their totals and keep the Sharks within three, 13-10.
High maintained the gap at three, 19-16, with her third kill of the match, but two points for the Tars brought out another Sharks timeout. Eric would knock in another kill, but the Tars would pull away to a 25-19 set victory.
The two teams split the first ten points of the second set, with Sigerich and Woodson earning kills, and High tallying another block for the Sharks. Graham would keep the match knotted at 8-8 with fourth kill before the Tars began to pull away. A Wilson kill for Rollins opened up a four-point advantage, 17-13.
Woodson and High would keep the Sharks in the match with kills at the midpoint of the set, but the Tars would close out the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
Collyn Welsch led all attackers with 11 kills for the Tars. Sigerich paced the Sharks with seven, while also attacking at a .545 clip. NSU out-blocked Rollins 6-4 with Sigerich and High each recording two solo blocks.
