BOX SCORE
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (8-7, 3-3 SSC) fell to .500 in the Sunshine State Conference as the Sharks lost to the Lynn Fighting Knights (10-8, 3-3 SSC), 82-67, Wednesday at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center.
Teddy Tassy (Sr., Port-au-Prince, Haiti) led the Sharks in scoring with 20 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor. He shot 4-for-5 from 3-point range and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line where he is now shooting 94 percent. Tassy also contributed three rebounds and two assists.
Iran Hollis (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) had a team-best five rebounds and chipped in 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting.
Louie Schonauer (Jr., Lincoln, Ill.) led his team in assists with four.
The Sharks came out strong in the first half as they shot lights-out from the field. NSU shot at a 57.7 percent clip at 15-for-26. Although their largest lead of the game was set at nine points with 3:13 left in the half, Lynn never allowed the Sharks to run away with the contest.
The Fighting Knights shot over 50 percent from the floor and always stayed within a few buckets from the Sharks before the break. The away team even had a rare six point possession when Lynn was fouled after a 3-pointer and followed up with another trey.
Shaun Pratl (Jr., Chicago Ridge, Ill.) scored nine of his 11 points in the first half.
The wheels came off in the second half as Lynn ran away with the contest. The Sharks had their biggest second half lead with 16 minutes remaining at 45-40. Lynn would more than double their score over the final stretch of the game while the Sharks only posted 22 points.
Trailing by a point with 10:25 left, the Fighting Knights went on a 16-4 run in which the Sharks turned the ball over seven times. The Sharks committed to fouling Lynn with just under three minutes remaining and the road team shot 9-for-15 from the line during that time. However, the Sharks only made two field goals during the time, both of which were layups by Hollis. The Sharks went 0-for-6 from 3-point range in the final two minutes after making five of their first 10 attempts in the game.
Robert Huntington (Sr., Perth, Australia) scored 14 points in the contest with 10 coming at the free throw line. Pratl and
Justin Jeangerard (Fr., Weaverville, Calif.) were each one shy of the team-lead in rebounds with four. The game marked the first time this season that the Sharks lost with four players scoring in double figures.
The Sharks will remain at home this Saturday, Jan. 21 when they take on Saint Leo at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcasted live on 640 Sports.
