FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team (4-17, 1-7 SSC) dropped three straight sets to Saint Leo (8-8, 2-6 SSC) Saturday afternoon at the Marion Bowman Activities Center. The host Lions took the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-15.
The Sharks had a rough night offensively, but leading the way was
Dana Holger (Fr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) and
Sydney Cook (Fr., Miami, Fla.), who combining for 16 kills, 9 and 7, respectively.
Kristina Eric (Jr., Sokolac, Bosnia) added 22 helpers to the team's offense and six digs defensively.
Paige Boivin (Sr., Plainfield Ill.) led the Sharks on defense with 12 digs.
In the first set the Sharks started off slow but battled back to even the score midway through the set, 14-14. That Sharks tried to ride their momentum but scored only four of the remaining 11 points to drop the first set 25-18.
A mirror image of the first set, NSU and the Lions traded blows to another 14-14 tie. The Sharks battled but again were only able to score four of the remaining 11 points, dropping the second set, 25-18.
In the third set, the Sharks searched for momentum but Saint Leo took a commanding lead off the get go, 20-10. NSU had a late comeback, trying to turn the tables, but the Lions matched the Sharks' five ensuing points to take the set, 25-15, and the match.
The Sharks are back in action next weekend, Oct. 19, against West Alabama in the first match of the Regional Crossover, hosted by Nova Southeastern.
