FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s soccer teams will be traveling to Tampa for a conference showdown. The women will be playing Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. and the men play Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 5:30 p.m.
For the women (4-5-2, 3-3-1 SSC), this will be a critical match as it is their final conference match of the season. The Sharks are currently in a four way tie for third place in the conference and depending on how the rest of the games play out this week, NSU could finish as high as third or as low as seventh in the standings.
The Spartans (11-3-1, 5-1-1 SSC) are also in a must win situation as they are currently tied for first with Rollins. If Tampa wins, they are guaranteed at least a share of the SSC regular season title. This season the Spartans have outscored opponents, 49-9, by far the highest goal differential in the conference.
Tampa has had the Sharks number when it comes to head-to-head match-ups, beating the Sharks 13 times in 17 matches. However, the Sharks have taken two out of the last three matches from the Spartans.
The men (6-5-1, 2-3-1 SSC) have been in a late season slump, 0-2-1 in the last three games, and have dropped to seventh in the conference standings. The Sharks will look to bounce back in a big way on Wednesday. With a win, NSU can jump to fifth place with one conference match remaining.
Tampa is coming into to this match winning three out of the last four matches and has a chance to move to third in the conference. The Sharks have historically struggled against the Spartans, posting an overall record of 4-11-3.
