TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern volleyball is hosting its second tournament of the season, the 2012 South Regional Crossover at the NSU Arena. The event will begin Friday, Oct. 19, with the Sharks playing in their annual Think Pink night. The tournament concludes Saturday with five matches on the main floor, including two featuring the Sharks.
NSU’s Friday night match against West Alabama will also serve as a night aimed towards breast cancer awareness. Proceeds raised Friday will benefit the American Cancer Society. As is their annual tradition, the volleyball team will compete in their pink jerseys.
The tournament will feature six teams, including NSU. The Sharks, along with SSC rivals Barry and Lynn, will be pitted against South Region teams in West Alabama, North Alabama and Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Sharks enter the match after a rough road trip in which the Sharks lost to Florida Southern and Saint Leo. The Sharks are halfway through their conference schedule and will look to gain momentum before they get their second shot at the rest of the league.
Lynn
Lynn is 10-8 overall and 2-6 in the Sunshine State Conference. They played NSU on Sept.14th and beat the Sharks, 3-0. The Fighting Knights recently lost in conference play against Florida Tech, 3-1.
North Alabama
The UNA Lions have a 7-10 record this season. Their last win came against rival West Alabama, coming out on top in a five-setter, 3-2. They will face Barry, Lynn and NSU during the crossover tournament.
West Alabama
UWA has a record of 9-11 this season. The Tigers will enter the tournament after ending up on the wrong side of North Alabama’s five-set victory. The Tigers have one match against a SSC school this season, coming in a 3-0 loss to Florida Tech in September.
Palm Beach Atlantic
The Sailfish of PBA remain unranked despite an impressive 23-3 overall record. They were on a 21-match winning streak until they faced No. 2 Tampa and lost, 3-0. The last time they played NSU was Sept. 27th of this year, where they won 3-0.
Barry
Barry has a 10-9 overall record, and holds a 3-5 record in the Sunshine State Conference. The Bucs enter the match after a 3-1 loss to the Eckerd Tritons, who are second in the conference. Barry will face the two guests from Alabama for the first time this year.
