FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s soccer team (6-7-1) lost their final home match of the season Saturday, falling to the No. 19 Rollins Tars (10-3-2), 2-0.
The night served as Senior Night for the Sharks, as
Cory Harbinson (Sr., Delray Beach, Fla.) was honored for playing in his final match at the NSU Soccer Complex.
The Sharks gave up a goal at the start of the match, which put NSU in catch-up mode for the remainder of the night. Rollins’ first-half goal came in the fourth minute and was scored by Rob Crowly.
The Sharks’ offense was limited in the first half, but awoke in the second. The Sharks took all seven of their shots after the break and equaled Rollins’ shot total for the period.
In the 55th minute, the Sharks had their best opportunity to score but could not find the back of the net.
Stefano Fanfoni (Fr., Cremona, Italy) took a shot from just above the box and ricocheted the ball off the right post, into the left post and out.
Riccardo Bini (Fr., Varese, Italy) received the rebound and fired into the hands of the diving goalkeeper.
Rollins put the match away in the 78th minute with a goal from Phillip Shehan. Rollins’ Grant Blackhurst sent a through ball past the goalkeeper for Shehan to score in the empty goal.
The loss did not affect the Sharks’ conference record, as the match is part of four nonconference matches against Sunshine State Conference opponents this season.
The Sharks will play their final nonconference match on Wednesday against Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla. at 3 p.m.
