WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (2-5-1, 1-3-0 SSC) dropped a conference match Wednesday on the road, falling to the Rollins Tars (6-4-0, 3-1-0 SSC), 2-1.
The Sharks’ goal came off of a corner kick in the 55th minute of the match. Freshman
Stephanie Moench (Austin, Texas) sent a great ball into the box and
Dilja Olafsdottir (Jr., Reykjavik, Iceland) headed it in to tie the match at one goal apiece. It was Olafsdottir’s first goal of the season.
The home team put itself ahead early, as the Tars scored on their first shot attempt in the 13th minute. Emma Jones of Rollins drove in the dagger on her first goal of the year.
NSU would continue to face pressure from Rollins, with goalkeeper
Michelle Fuerst (Sr., Armonk, N.Y.), making her first appearance of the season, making six first-half saves. NSU’s only first-half shot-on-goal came in the 28th minutes from freshman
Tori Vives (Cooper City, Fla.).
The strong play in goal paid off at the start of the second half when the Sharks’ all-region defender tied the match on the Sharks’ second shot-on-goal of the match. However, the tie would only last five minutes, as Asure Dorsey went one-on-one with the keeper and scored the game-winner for the Tars.
Fuerst made 11 saves in the match, a season-high for NSU.
The Sharks will look to rebound on Saturday in St. Leo, Fla. against Saint Leo at 5 p.m.
