FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s soccer teams are set to take on the Saint Leo Lions Saturday in a doubleheader in St. Leo, Fla. The women’s team will kickoff at 5 p.m. with the men’s game immediately following.

Each team will continue their road trip that started with a disappointing night against Rollins on Wednesday. The men’s team lost the opening match, 3-0, after allowing all three goals within the first 10 minutes of the second half. The women’s team dropped a close 2-1 match after conceding a goal with 30 minutes left.

The women’s soccer team has struggled in conference play, with a 1-3-0 record, but is still in contention for a playoff spot. The Sharks have three points, putting them in a three-way tie with Barry and Florida Southern and three points shy of fifth place. Saint Leo is a point ahead of the Sharks, but has less matches remaining on the schedule.

Saint Leo’s women’s team was a popular pick to win the league this season, after returning many players from a successful 2011 run. However, the Lions are on a rough stretch, going 0-3-1 over their last four conference matches. Their lone conference win came over Lynn in double overtime.

The Sharks have showed success in the past against this Saint Leo squad. NSU’s women’s team met Saint Leo last season when the Lions were undefeated and ranked sixth in the nation. NSU shutout the Lions en route to a scoreless tie. Michelle Fuerst (Sr., Armonk, N.Y.), who started in the Sharks’ last match against Rollins, earned the shutout against Saint Leo last season.

The men enter the match 2-2-0 In Sunshine State Conference play. Their loss to Rollins Wednesday shrank their chances of winning the conference title, but a bye in the first round of the playoffs is still in reach. A win over Saint Leo would keep the Sharks on pace with the Tampa Spartans, whose nine points has them second in the SSC.

Saint Leo has the same amount of points as the Sharks, but have an extra loss to boot. The Lions can’t afford a home loss, as it would put them at 2-4 with only two matches in conference remaining. Both teams can’t afford to get comfortable down the stretch, with a strong Rollins squad and Florida Southern, which has only played two SSC matches, looking to pass in the rearview mirror.

The NSU men’s team has an all-time record of 8-6-2 against Saint Leo. Last year, the Sharks faced a Saint Leo squad that was ranked No. 25 in the nation and took a shocking loss. The Sharks led, 3-1, entering the last 10 minutes of regulation. Unfortunately, Saint Leo made a miracle come back, tying the match and winning in the 103rd minute of play. This will be NSU’s first chance to avenge that loss.
