ST. LEO, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (3-5-1, 2-3-0 SSC) had its best offensive match of the season on the road Saturday, defeating the Saint Leo Lions (2-7-1, 1-4-1 SSC), 4-0.

The Sharks started their scoring run early, obtaining the lead in the fourth minute of the match. NSU scored off their first corner kick of the day, as Stephanie Moench (Fr., Austin, Texas) sent a perfect ball into the box for Dilja Olafsdottir (Jr., Reykjavik, Iceland) to head in on the left side of the goal. It was Olafsdottir’s second goal of the season.

Three minutes later, the Sharks struck again on a goal from freshman Elizabeth Haumschild (Clearwater, Fla.). Malin Broberg (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden) drew away the attention of the defense and played a great ball to Haumschild, who scored from nearly point-blank range. It was the first goal of Haumschild’s collegiate career and the first assist of the year for Broberg.

The third goal came before halftime in the 41st minute. Sarah Keville (Fr., Vero Beach, Fla.), who had just checked in, played a cross to Sierra Lelii (So., Seminole, Fla.), who couldn’t find room and played the ball out of the box. Moench received the ball with room to fire, and placed the ball into the net from 25 yards out for her second goal of the season.

The Sharks would score their season-best fourth goal in the 53rd minute. Lelii scored after playing a great pass to Rebecca Barb (Fr., Woodbury, N.J.). Barb crossed the ball into the box for Lelii, who scored from the center of the penalty box for her first goal of the season.

The game went into a 30 minute delay with 17 minutes left in the match. After startup, the match would be stopped again in the 80th minute. Due to the score and the time remaining, the match was called 10 minutes early.

The 4-0 finish was the best in conference since October of 2010, when NSU had the same result at home against Eckerd.

The Sharks will return home on Oct. 9 to host Eckerd at the NSU Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.
