FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s soccer team (6-4-0, 2-2-0 SSC) will return to the NSU Soccer Complex after a week off, as the Sharks take on the Eckerd Tritons (5-5-1, 2-2-1 SSC) Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Sharks come into the match after being rained out on the road in St. Leo, Fla. Saturday. Their previous outing was against the always-strong Rollins Tars, who defeated NSU, 3-0. The match put the Sharks halfway through conference play, where the Sharks sit at .500. NSU’s wins have come on the road against Florida Southern, 2-1, and at home against then-No. 1 Lynn, 1-0.
With four Sunshine State conference matches remaining, the Sharks control a large portion of their destiny. It is still mathematically possible for the Sharks to win a share of the regular season title and if they can win out, they would be assured a bye in the first round of the SSC Tournament.
The first of four remaining SSC matches is Wednesday’s match against Eckerd. Earlier in the year, the Sharks defeated the Tritons, 1-0, in nonconference play. In the match,
Riccardo Bini (Fr., Varese, Italy) scored the game-winner in the 21st minute. Freshman left back
Nicola Brivio (Gallarte, Italy) played a cross into the box that was misread by the opposing goalkeeper. The keeper came out to snatch up the ball but missed, allowing Bini to fire into a wide open goal. The win snapped a three-match losing streak.
NSU has rarely had trouble with the Tritons, holding a 12-3 record against them all-time. The Sharks have never lost to Eckerd at the NSU Soccer Complex.
