FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (4-24, 1-10 SSC) took the first set, but fell in four to Barry (15-11, 7-6 SSC) on Tuesday night at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center, 18-25, 25-23, 29-27, 25-17.
Samantha High (Jr., Naples, Fla.) had a match-high 12 kills, while
Dana Holger (Fr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) added 10 and also tied for the team lead in digs, with
Sarah Shifflett (So., Boynton Beach, Fla.), with 14.
Kristina Eric (Jr., Sokolac, Bosnia) had 43 assists, most for either team.
In the first set, NSU broke an early tie with a 14-5 run to take a 19-10 lead on their way to the 25-18 set win. As a team, they attacked at a 73 percent clip in that opening frame, and took advantage of 12 Barry errors.
The Sharks took a 20-14 lead in the second. Barry ended up cutting it to 23-20 before taking the final five points of the set to tie the match at 1-1.
The third set was back and forth all throughout. The biggest lead for either team was six, when Barry led 17-11. The Sharks came back to take a 20-19 lead, and from there on out, neither team held more than a two-point advantage.
Twice, NSU was serving for the set, and both times, Barry took control. The Bucs scored the last three points and won the set 29-27.
Barry scored the first five points of the fourth and deciding set and never looked back. Twice, the Sharks cut it to three points, but the visitors took the match with a 25-17 win.
NSU has the first of back-to-back SSC road matches this Friday, Nov. 9, when they take on Tampa at 7 p.m. The following night, the Sharks travel to Eckerd for a 4 p.m. start.
