Volleyball Downed on the Road Against No. 7 Tampa, 3-0

Sharks go down in first of back-to-back road matches.

TAMPA, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (4-25, 1-12 SSC) took a road loss to the No. 7 Tampa Spartans (24-3, 14-0 SSC) Saturday, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-13).

Sydney Cook (Fr., Miami, Fla.) continued to make her case for All-SSC Newcomer Team with a team-best seven kills in the match. She held a .150 attack percentage and tallied four digs. Kristina Eric (Jr., Sokolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina) earned 20 assists while teammate Kelly McMahon (Sr., Madison, Wis.) had a team-high seven digs.

NSU fought hard from the beginning and started the first set on top, 4-2. They stayed in the fight against the region’s best team, trailing at one point, 12-10. However, Tampa took over and scored 13 of the next 18 points to take the opening set.

In the second set, the Sharks played from behind immediately and trailed by as much as nine points at 12-3. NSU would later trail, 23-14, but the Sharks stormed back. They took seven of the final nine points but did not have enough room for error to catch up, eventually falling, 25-20, in the closest set of the night.

Tampa took advantage of their 2-0 lead and put the third set away early. The Spartans earned the first five points and had their biggest lead of the night at 24-12. NSU would earn one more point on a service error, but Tampa ended the night with a kill from Jackie Neff.

NSU will continue its final road trip Saturday against Eckerd at 4 p.m.
