BOX SCORE
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s basketball team (11-12) took its second-straight win at home Wednesday night as the Sharks closed out the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (4-20), 68-63.
Robert Huntington (Sr., Perth, Australia) led the Sharks in scoring as he scored 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor. He was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line and recorded four rebounds.
Shaun Pratl (Jr., Chicago Ridge, Ill.) nearly had a double-double with nine points and a team-best 11 rebounds. He also tallied five assists and two blocks.
Tim Traversa (Jr., Chicago, Ill.) led the Sharks in assists with six along with two blocks and two steals.
The game looked like it would be a route early as the Sharks led, 16-6, just seven minutes into the game. Despite a double-digit deficit, the Sailfish set the theme for the night as they would not let the Sharks run away with the game. They went on a 14-6 run and eventually tied the game at 29-29.
The Sharks ended the half strong with a 3-pointer from
Lukas Roesch (Jr., Sugar Grove, Ohio) and a last-second layup by Pratl to enter the break ahead, 34-29. Roesch had a strong first half as he shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, good for 10 points.
The second half looked nearly identical to the first as the Sharks came out to a huge lead, only to see the Sailfish climb right back into the game. The Sharks took their largest lead of the game at 53-41 with 10 minutes remaining. PBA outscored the home team over the remainder of the game and brought their deficit down to one points with 27 seconds left.
The Sharks maintained composure with their lead hanging on by a thread and won the game at the free throw line. Teddy Tassy knocked down back-to-back free throws before PBA missed a game-tying 3-pointer from the right corner.
Sean Mullan (Jr., Mangerton, Australia) pulled down the rebound and made two free throws with a second left on the clock to seal the win.
The Sharks struggled offensively from the perimeter as they went 3-for-18 from downtown. However, the Sharks had their way with PBA in the post, scoring 34 points in the paint and shooting nearly 60 percent on 2-pointers.
Roesch finished the game with 12 points while
Iran Hollis (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) followed behind with 11 points and five rebounds.
Teddy Tassy (Sr., Port-au-Prince, Haiti) scored seven points in the contest while
Louie Schonauer (Jr., Lincoln, Ill.) and Mullan each brought down four boards.
The Sharks will hit the road for their next game as they face Saint Leo this Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will broadcast live on 640 Sports.
