FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern soccer is heading up Interstate-75 Saturday, as both the men and women face off against Eckerd in St. Petersburg, Fla. The women will play their match at 5 p.m., with the men’s game to follow immediately after.
Although the matches will be against a conference opponent, neither match will count towards NSU’s conference records. Each team has agreed to face four Sunshine State Conference opponents this season in out-of-conference play, giving the teams more regional matches in state.
The two teams are moving in different directions Saturday, as the women are coming off a statement-win over Florida Tech last weekend, 3-1, while the men return after falling to Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday, 1-0. The main goal will be the same for both teams: earn a tough road win before next week’s retribution matches against Florida Southern.
The women’s match will feature two teams trying to stay above .500, as both NSU and Eckerd each have two wins and two losses. Last year, the NSU women defeated Eckerd on their field, 3-0.
Kelsey McCusker (Stone Harbor, N.J.) and
Malin Broberg (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden) each scored against the Tritons. Overall, the Sharks are 11-3-3 all-time against Eckerd.
The men head into Saturday on a three-match losing streak, despite being the more active team offensively in every match this season. Eckerd’s men are 2-3-1 on the season, but have faced tough competition in the SSC. The Sharks travelled to Eckerd last season, losing to the Tritons for only the third time in program history, 2-1. Like the women’s team, the Sharks have an overwhelming all-time record against Eckerd, with 11 wins overall.
