FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University soccer is set to host a doubleheader against the Lynn Fighting Knights Saturday at the NSU Soccer Complex. The women will kick off the action at 5 p.m., before the men take on Lynn’s No. 1 ranked men’s team at 7:30 p.m.
The men will face their biggest challenge of the season Saturday, as the nation’s top-ranked team enters the match undefeated. The Fighting Knights have played four Sunshine State Conference matches so far this season and have not conceded a goal yet.
The NSU men enter Saturday on a two-match winning streak. Both wins came on the road against Eckerd, 1-0, and Florida Southern, 2-1. Freshman
Riccardo Bini (Varese, Italy) has broken out as the team’s top offensive weapon, scoring every goal in both matches. The Sharks have outshot all eight of their opponents this season and, even in their losses, have always been the more active offensive team. NSU hopes to keep the trend alive, despite facing an opponent that posted four goals on Tampa this past Wednesday.
Historically, the Sharks have had little success against the Fighting Knights, posting a 3-26-4 record. However, the Sharks earned a win over Lynn the last time they faced at the NSU Soccer Complex in 2010, 5-2. Former Sharks Aly Hassan and Juan Gonzalez each scored two goals on their senior night.
The NSU women will face a team that has had its struggles as of late. Lynn’s women’s team holds a 2-5-1 overall record, but is currently second in the SSC with a 2-2-0 record. Lynn’s wins came against Rollins and Barry, two teams that currently hold a .500 record.
The Sharks will be looking to turn their momentum around, as the women are coming off a scoreless tie against Eckerd and a 2-1 loss to Florida Southern. However, the Sharks had a positive result the last time they played at the NSU Soccer Complex, taking a 3-1 lead over Florida Tech. In the match, NSU had a three-goal lead at halftime.
The NSU women’s team will look to push its all-time record against Lynn to .500. The Sharks have a 10-11-1 record against the Fighting Knights. The Sharks have won two matches in a row against them, including last year’s 2-1 victory. In that match,
Sierra Lelii (Fr., Seminole, Fla.) scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute.
