FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men’s soccer team (2-0-0) will continue its oldest rivalry Friday, Sept. 7, as the Sharks host the St. Thomas Bobcats (0-1-1) at the NSU Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.

The Sharks will face the Bobcats in a rivalry that has lasted 20 years. The Sharks have faced St. Thomas 32 times in program history, the second-most matches against a single opponent. The Sharks are 19-10-3 all-time against St. Thomas. A win Friday will mark the first time NSU has reached the 20-win mark over a single opponent.

However, a win will not come easy for the Sharks against this NAIA foe. Although they have not lost to the Bobcats in over a decade, two of the last three meetings have ended in a tie. Three of the last five meetings have gone to overtime.

Last season, the Sharks defeated St. Thomas at the NSU Soccer Complex, 2-0. It was not an easy win, as the Sharks needed a career-best game from then-freshman goalkeeper, Andrea Giombetti (Rome, Italy). Giombetti earned the shutout despite tallying a career-best nine saves.

On defense, the Sharks will not only look to stay undefeated, but also start the season 3-for-3 in shutouts. In 180 minutes against Ave Maria and Carson-Newman, the Sharks have yet to concede a goal. The Sharks have only needed four saves, one in each half, to reach this mark. If the Sharks shutout the Bobcats, it will be only the second time in program history that the Sharks have started the season with three-straight shutouts.

Offensively, several Sharks will be looking to have the team's first breakout performance. Nobody on the squad has more than one goal scored so far this year. On top of that, five players are currently tied for the team-high of one assist. A big win over St. Thomas may also reveal the dominant offensive threat in the team's arsenal.
