MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team won its season-opener Friday, 1-0, against Georgia College and State (1-2-0), on a late goal by Malin Broberg (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden ), just minutes into the first overtime.

Just 1:43 into the 10-minute overtime period, Melissa Madden (So., Vero Beach, Fla.), slid a through ball to Broberg, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and was able to slide it into the lower left corner of the net.

During the first half, both teams lacked offensive production, with the Bobcats outshooting the Sharks 5-4. However, the second half was a different story. The Sharks looked to attack early, as a well-driven shot just outside the top of the box by Deirdre Long (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.) hit the crossbar, just two minutes into the second half.

The Sharks continued to create opportunities when Broberg blasted a shot from 35 yards out in the 65th minute, but GCSU goalkeeper Annie Stephens was just able to get a finger tip save to it. The Sharks were able to hold the Bobcats scoreless in the second half, allowing Broberg’s game-winning goal.

The Sharks will stay on the road to play a neutral-site match against Tusculum on Sunday, Sept., 9 in Milledgeville, Ga.
